Life Group Questions for THE GOSPEL OF MARK

Writer's picture: South Beach ChurchSouth Beach Church

Congrats to the Grads! Last week highschool graduates were celebrated all around the country with cap and gowns, commencement speeches, BBQ's, ceremonies, and party's. How cool! It was the celebration and acknowledgement of 4 years of showing up, doing stuff, learning, growing, and  hard work. I'm not sure how your highschool experience was. I know mine was unique. We all have a similar yet personal experience when it comes to those years. But in order to graduate you had to have a few things throughout the 4 years. You had tasks, learning, and tests. You had peers, coaches, and teachers. You had curriculum, content, and goals. And everyone involved knew you weren't quite ready, until you were ready. You weren't ready to graduate when you first showed up. You weren't ready after a few lessons or even a few years. You simply weren't ready. You had more to learn, more to do, and more to experience. Along the way your teachers knew this and teamed up with you to ensure that you kept learning, kept growing, and at times just showed up. No one was surprised that you weren't ready. Everyone knew it'd take several years, multiple classes, and dozens and hundreds of people along the way working to ensure that you graduated. It was a team effort. All of this was simply preparatory for life. And life is no different. You're not ready to graduate yet. You're still learning, growing, and changing. It's pretty obvious. There is more to figure out. Things to take extra classes on. Areas we need tutors and subjects we need to press in on. But here's the great news. God knows you're not ready, and He loves it. He's not mad at you or frustrated with you. Instead, He's got new assignments for you, extra credit options ahead of you, and plenty of 'Tutoring help' to offer to you. He knows you're not where you need to be to graduate right now. And that's ok. You're right where you need to be to do the next right thing. He is for you. You're gonna graduate just fine. Show up. Lean in. And put a smile on your face. Cap and gown day is coming.

LIFE GROUP QUESTIONS:

1) Jesus is on the MOVE! In Mark 3 and 4 He's healing, teaching, and moving in power. And some people LOVE IT! Others are critical of it and some are cynical towards it. How was your experience when you met Jesus? Was there ever a season when you were  cynical or critical? What changed everything for you?

2) In response to the critics and cynics Jesus taught the parable of the 4 soils. In your groups talk about the soils and their condition and how this can happen in our own lives from day to day.

#1 The Pathway Heart. This is the hard heart due to being in the world or attacked by the enemy himself.

#2 The Shallow Heart. This is the heart that won't deal with the underlying areas below the surface. The rocks haven't been removed. There's no depth.

#3 The Crowded Heart. This is the heart that is torn between the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, or the desire for other things.

#4 The Ready Heart. This is the heart that is soft, deep, and focused on the things of God and it produces fruit.

3) How is the condition of your heart right now?

What can we do every day to make sure our hearts are soft, open, and focused on God?

He is for you!

So am I.

Keep going...Cap and Gown day is coming!
